On-line detection of emulsion polymerization by solid-state NMR spectroscopy

 The on-line detection of emulsion polymerization processes by means of solid-state NMR spectroscopy is demonstrated for the first time using poly(butyl acrylate) as a model system. Relatively short time intervals are accessible via ¹H detection while the use of ¹³C NMR spectroscopy results in an increased spectral resolution. Details of sample preparation and experimental techniques are given, while remaining artifacts of the preliminary results will be addressed in further investigations. Reconstruction of signals from multiscale edges

We present a method for signal reconstruction based upon the location of its singularities which are identified by a wavelet transform technique. The reconstructed signal is an infconvolution spline approximant. The data for the interpolation problem which we solve comes from a compact signal coding procedure. Error bounds and convergence results for the calculated signal are given.

High resolution instrumentation system for fibre-Bragg grating aerospace sensors

A passive technique for high-resolution detection of the wavelength of peak reflection from fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors is presented. The approach, based on a de-convolution of the FBG spectrum and the spectrometer resolution, essentially overcomes the low spectral resolution (≈0.1 nm) associated with commercial spectrometers employing CCD detection. The performance of two algorithms, the Centroid Detection algorithm (CDA) and the least squares method (LSQ), are compared. The LSQ algorithm offers resolution enhancement of at least two orders of magnitude and is shown to be independent of the FBG intensity and bandwidth over a broad range.
